The Info Fluency Triad
Thoughts on Student Activity:
- Students learn to build, develop, and navigate personal learning networks by understanding how to identify people (valuable and legitimate) as resources and interact with them using different types of media/tools/platforms/something to that effect.
- Students navigate, evaluate, store, sort, access information in/through the network
- Students understand the value of sharing back to the network using various mechanisms
Mapping the Three Areas
An attempt to identify some of the skills and processes in each area of the IF triad that could conceivably be covered in an IF course.
Underlying all of these is, of course, the basic creation of a personal learning environment (PLE).
Domain/Discipline Knowledge
We don't want to teach disciplinary information, but tools for dealing with/handling it:
- advanced web searching
- advanced use of "standard" engines
- deep web: specialized and local DBs
- internet archives
- discussion mining
- Information Management, specifically:
- capturing links
- storing/retriving information of various types
- web based info
- photos
- file-based documents
- feed reading
- sharing?
