Proactive Support

  • Periodic phone calls during the first semester (are you having any problems? do you have any questions?)
  • Reminders of important dates (last day to drop, last day to withdraw, grades due, etc.) (as they come up, not just at the beginning of the semester)
  • Reminder and/or help to contact non-responsive students.
  • Help to create mid-term surveys to evaluate how the course is going
  • Forwarding course evaluations to instructors (and design team) at the end of semester (or from yearlong students who have completed) design team receives copies
  • Maintain a FAQ for instructors and/or students for online classes
  • Help to determine if reusable learning objects could be created for use in multiple classes (like how to set up a blog that we've used in several classes)
  • Reminder about updating welcome letters and make sure they get sent out
  • Semester Letter to Faculty reminding them to change semester dates, clean out announcements, digital dropbox, disc threads, update schedule, check links (Shari is currently doing this - so check with her to see if she wants to continue)

  • Published name/phone number of a CDE staff member who will accept and route faculty inquiries

Problem Solving

  • When should instructors contact OIT?
  • When should instructors tell students to contact OIT?
  • What to do if students are submitting unknown file types
  • What to do if a student contests a grade or course policy
  • When students call to complain – follow up with instructor (this takes it out of student services)
